reported that the European Court of First Instance, in a move upholding key elements of the March 2004 European Commission Decision, declared the American company responsible for misusing it\'s Windows monopoly. Specifically, the company packages Windows Media Player with their Windows software,
a la trojan horse, allowing market dominance of the software. Microsoft to EU court: \"the decision on the Media Player opens a dangerous precedent for other companies and sectors. Airbus should
start worrying about adding new features to their planes.\"

The golf featured in Wii Sports introduced a lot of casual gamers to a virtual sport many of them would never have touched on their own. Yet Wii Sports Golf is hardly a complete game, and has only one full course. Tecmo has stepped forward to offer Super Swing Golf, a more complete golf title that combines an odd mix of more challenging golf elements and overly-stylized presentation. Without online play, Super Swing may be missing a key element, but with a dozen courses and more golf features it serves as competent follow-up to what Nintendo started back when the Wii launched.

The story behind the first Eragon book, movie, and video game is an interesting one, starting with a home-schooled student that published his book at 19 years old. Now, with a movie that is being universally trashed by reviewers, the Eragon video game has come forward to redeem the franchise from embarrassment. Sadly, its repetitive gameplay and incoherent storytelling don\'t do Eragon much justice, portraying the world as nothing but an endless stream of bad guys with frustrating gameplay. The movie and book have been accused of being derivative of classics like Star Wars; the video game doesn\'t present a coherent enough story to be accused of being derivative of anything.

Space Empires V doesn\'t exactly revolutionize the world of 4X gaming, but it does offer a multitude of micromanagement options, if that\'s your thing. The space empire building title lets you explore the universe and meet strange races with one of the most extensive diplomacy systems we\'ve ever seen, but is plagued with bugs that often get in the way. If you like micromanaging politics and investigating branching technology trees, Space Empires V might be for you, but only if you can survive the learning curve and a lot of frustration.

Garfield stars in his very own Game Boy Advance game, rescuing friends and eating junk food...even while he\'s sleeping. Much like the recent Garfield movies, there\'s really nothing to see here unless you have a five-year-old screaming for it. If you are hoping to satisfy a pre-gamer with a thing for grumpy cats, then Garfield and His Nine Lives might buy a few hours of quiet on the next big roadtrip. Check Amanda\'s review for details.

It\'s about damn time the video game industry got a respectable awards ceremony (that\'s a big f#$%-you to Spike TV, by the way). BAFTA actually has given awards to games that deserve them. To all the development companies out there, who put so much hard work into their games, there\'s finally a way to give to them the honor and respect they deserve. This is truly a first step to viewing video games as an art form. This year, LocoRoco and Tom Clany\'s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter get their due, as do Lego Star Wars II: the Original Trilogy, Dr. Kawashima\'s Brain Training: How Old is Your Brain?, and The Movies, among others.

Screenshots of Playstation 3 games continue to suggest that publishers are trying to take full advantage the PS3\'s power. Yesterday, publisher Koei released a bunch of new screenshots for Fatal Inertia, their futuristic hover racer that looks vaguely reminiscent of both F-Zero and the pod racing from Star Wars. Its gameplay emphasizes the use of physics as a tool to win races, but Fatal Inertia\'s graphics engine is evidently looking pretty good too. You can see that from the new screens.

Saint\'s Row is unmistakably influenced by Grand Theft Auto, but it manages to improve on the GTA formula in certain aspects. And why not? It took Rockstar almost a decade to get gamers into airplanes for crying out loud. And this is the 21st Century! Shouldn\'t we be able to save without retreating to a hideout? And for all of everyone\'s talk about the GTA games being open-ended, free-roaming adventures, they\'re actually incredibly linear narratives constrained by Hollywood cliches. Only hours away from the start of the Penny-Arcade Exposition in Washington, Penny-Arcade has let slip a new project of theirs. The Penny-Arcade webcomic has partnered with Hothead Games to produce video games based on the characters of their popular online comic. The games are going to be designed for Windows, OSX, and Linux at first, with an aim to translate to the home console somewhere down the road. The games will be downloadable and episodic.
